Stuffing & Shots

Last weekend we went home to visit family, and me and Troy stopped to stuff Ethan a Build-a-Bear. I have wanted to do it for forever, and we finally got to. Now he has a bear his mom and dad stuffed special for him. Plus, we had fun doing it. :]

We also got shots this week. Not very fun. Ethan actually did really good, and cried for a minute and then stopped. He was even smiling at us shortly after. Then he took a good long nap. :] 

At 2 months: Ethan measures:

 92nd for height, at 25 inches. 

62nd for weight, at 12.5 lbs 

and 22nd for head circumference at 15.4 in.  

Two Months

Ethan is two months old yesterday! (Slacker mom, I know)
I can't believe how fast time has gone and how old he is. It's crazy!

(He can smile. He kinda is in the picture. But he refuses to let us take a picture, so this is the best we get) 

At two months Ethan enjoys: 

*Learning to make sounds. Especially yelling at mom and dad. Our child doesn't cry (unless his yelling doesn't work of course) he just yells. One big loud "AH!" Until you come. 

*Smiling and learning to laugh. Mom and dad enjoy this too. 

*Ethan loves his schedule. He has done a really good job at getting on one now that mom is back at work. 

*He enjoys keeping mom and dad up at night. He will sleep for a while, then wake up around 3. After that, it's about every 2 hours. He just needs to learn how to sleep all the way through, not halfway. :] 

*He has discovered how to move his arms to get what he wants. This is so fun to mom because I finally feel like he is learning how to control his body! He will reach for toys, just can't figure out how to grab them yet. 

*Learning to sit up is his top goal. He tries so hard. It's really cute. With a little assistance he will pull himself to sit up straight, then he gets exhausted and collapses backwards. It's so funny. 

*Being a strong little boy. We are going to be in trouble! He is so strong! :] 

*When dad reads him a story at night. He could care less when mom does it, but when dad reads he goes quite and just stares at Troy or the book he has. It's so cool. He loves his dad. 

Reunited.

Last weekend we got to go to part of the Page Family Reunion. Unfortunately we weren't able to be there the whole time because Troy had to work (lame right?) But we had fun for the parts that we were there for!

We got to bless Ethan on August 5, 2012 in our families home ward.
This was cool because it's the ward I grew up in. And let's face it, just haven't been brave enough to fully commit to leaving it behind. :]

It was such a fun day and we had so much family support. Thanks to all those who were able to come!!

Zoo!

We got to take Ethan to the zoo for the first time.
I'm like totally positive I was more excited than him.
He didn't even know where we were. But mom and dad had fun!

We got to the Tiger right as he decided to get up and walk around. So cool! We thought he was going to get in the water, but he was just tricking us all. Bummer. 

 Corbin was so excited to see the giraffes. This is one of my favorite exhibits because you can get pretty close to them.

Again, Ethan sleeping. But it was just so cute. He was lounging. 

He finally woke up when we went in the gift shop. Probably because it was air conditioned, and he got a little chilly.

We are Family

This weekend we got to hang out with the Butterfield clan. It was so good to get to see everyone. We hadn't seen some of them since before I was pregnant! Ridiculous. :]
But Ethan got to meet all of his cousins, aunts, and uncles.

We got to spend a few days with Travis who came in earlier than everyone else. He was Ethan's buddy. He was so good with him, and Ethan loved him.

 We tried to do a lot of sleeping on our mini-vacation. Most of the time, this is how Ethan slept at night. Poor Troy. But it was adorable. :]

 Saturday we took family pictures. I was super worried because the night before Ethan was crazy angry at everything. That morning was no different. He finally fell asleep in the car on the way to pictures and woke up when we got there. He was wide awake and totally content the whole time. It was awesome! Our kid was the most content with getting his picture taken. Go us. :]

(You can see Avery and Eli on the bottom with full cheeks. Their parents were throwing candy towards them to get them to stay in their places. It was AWESOME and it worked. :] )

Jay got to hold Ethan during the grandkid photo.  This was the only time Ethan really fussed, but he calmed right down while Jay had him. Notice the look of concern. This was before the calming occurred. He did great though. :]

Jay, Rex, and Eli were so excited to meet their cousin. Eli was so cute and could say Ethan's name. Jay and Rex held him a few times and were always saying hi as they ran around playing. So cute.

Finally Ethan has learned to smile. Mostly. However, every time we try to take a picture he either stops or gets really angry.  This is the closest we have come. We will get one just wait. 

What's Up Doc

Today we took Ethan to Primary Children's to have a VCUG done and meet with our new urologist.
We felt he should get to sleep in mom and dads super comfy bed since he had such a big day ahead.

During the VCUG they insert a catheter drain his bladder and fill it with contrast fluid. They take pictures of this then drain take more pictures and do it again. They needed to make sure the fluid wasn't being pushed back up into his kidneys. It wasn't so that was good. We had the VCUG appointment at 10:30 and it took way less time than we expected. Since we were downtown and had never been to City Creek, we decided we would kill the time before our next appointment walking around. It was so nice and we really enjoyed it. We want to go back again when we can spend more time. :] 
But, we did find these awesome sunglasses that looked totally cool on Little Dude. Really embodied his nickname. 

 At 1:30 we were meeting with our urologist and headed back to Primary Children's.  Ethan was very tired and very done with the day at this point, and our doc hadn't even seen us yet. Troy spent a lot of time walking back and forth in our room getting him to stay calm. Such a good dad. :]
(Notice: every time Troy holds Ethan he sticks his arm down his side. Most of the time he will get a death grip on Troy's shirt. It's awesome.)

This is our visual aid for Ethan's diagnosis. Awesome, we know.
The kidney on the right is totally normal as you can see. It only has one ureter and it connects to the right place on his kidney.  The kidney on the left however has two ureters. You can see that the bottom ureter is connected to the bladder in the right place and is draining fluid from the bottom half of his left kidney how it should be. The top ureter is not connected properly. He believes it attached itself at the base of the bladder rather than at the back, so the fluid is just stuck. This ureter is about 10 times regular size.
In about six months they will do surgery.
They will go in with a scope, check the anatomy of the bladder from the inside to make sure all looks well, and then go and reattach the bad ureter to the back of the bladder by the other one.  It's about a two hour surgery.  The chunk off to the side of the ureter is a visual of what they will do if they have to taper the ureter to fit into the valve they will create on the bladder.

But at least we have this cool picture to help. :]
We are glad we know what the problem is, and that there are no major concerns.  Having 2 ureters happens in about every 200 people, and 9 out of 10 times it's not a problem and works just fine.
We just got lucky I guess. :]
Ethan is doing fine, and won't remember anything from the surgery which is a plus.
He takes antibiotics everyday so that infections can't grow in the ureter that is filled with fluid. There is no concern, and we just have to wait until he is older to perform the surgery.
